Album Info:On September 3 and 4, 1960 CN U-2-c 4-8-4 No.6153 made two trips to mark the official end of steam operations on the Canadian National. The first trip was a short one from Montreal to Joliette which was mainly for photography during several run-by's while the second to Ottawa did not include run-by's because the CN thought the historic event would attract too many spectators for safety. U-2-c 6153 was one of the 20 4-8-4's built by Montreal in 1929, which were duplicates of the first 40 built in 1927 and interesting because they retained the main frame extension outside the rear truck and had the overhanging feedwater heater. No.6153 is preserved at the Canadian Railroad Museum at Delson outside Montreal. I rode both trips -- here are some of my slides.
