Album Info:The Moshassuck Valley railroad was only two miles long, running from Saylesville, RI to a mainline connection in Woodlawn, Pawtucket. It was built in 1875 by the Sayles brothers to provide rail service to what had become the largest cloth finishing mills in the world. It was owned by the Sayles until 1967, and since 1981 by the Providence & Worcester with which it originally connected. It is barely a shadow of the busy railroad it once was.

Moshassuck Valley 8
Title:  Moshassuck Valley 8
Description:  MVRR 8 is at the interchange with the New Haven to pick-up the three box cars. This is the east end of the Northup Ave. yard -- Providence skyline is in the background. The MVRR had intended to build under the NH near this point and reach the Pawtucket River to receive coal or other goods shipped by water at a lower cost. It would have electrified. Construction started in 1907 but the New Haven made rate concessions and the project was halted.
